Green Flag - Aviva Premiership Player of the Month - November
This week Green Flag - official breakdown cover supplier of Aviva Premiership Rugby - releases the second episode of its monthly At The Breakdown series, as pundit David Flatman goes under the bonnet to announce his Forward of the Month and get the inside scoop from the players.
In the Forward of the Month for November, Flats had a tough decision to make as he had to select one winner from four players in fine form for their clubs;
1. Exeter Chiefs' Alec Hepburn
2. Wasps' James Haskell
3. Wasps’ George Smith
4. Saracens' Jamie George
On each of the shortlisted players, Flats gave his reasons for their nomination:
Alec Hepburn, Exeter Chiefs: "I've been waiting to see the U-20s England star at this level. His performance at Leicester was brilliant and he has kept his form up. I love seeing him play for this exciting Exeter Chiefs team and hope he keeps it up."
James Haskell, Wasps: "After the world cup, having only played about 50 minutes of the Uruguay game, he must have felt he had a real point to prove and he left that tournament angry. He's really raging against the critics and playing some the best rugby of his career."
George Smith, Wasps: "He's 35 years old and looks it but he certainly doesn't play like it. He's great over the ball and always seems to play with great technique and low centre of gravity. His fitness, awareness, power and skill level, with some nice little touches, has been evident this month."
Jamie George, Saracens: "With a hundred odd appearances for Sarries already, he's still a young gun to me but he's really putting his hand up for England selection. His scrumming is impressive and his skill around the field is very good, he can just do it all. I think he'll be a regular England hooker within the year with Eddie Jones at the helm."
Following analysis of each player's individual and team performances over the month of November, Flats awarded the Green Flag Forward of the Month for November to Wasps' George Smith.
On his selection, David Flatman said: "This month's performances were as dominant as the last, with four players in great from at the breakdown for their clubs! But, there has to be a winner and this month I am awarding the prize to Wasps' George Smith.
"George's performances over the past month have been very impressive and for me, he has been the best player in the Aviva Premiership in November, never mind the best forward. Congratulations George!"
