AT a distance of 19,100km, Dunedin is officially listed as the furthest city in the world from London.
For England Test star James Haskell, it is an isolation he's in no hurry to address after recently arriving in the sleepy Kiwi town on a footballing sojourn with the Highlanders.
"I haven't even got internet yet," Haskell said.
"I like it. Quiet suits me. I have lived in London and Paris and Tokyo. Dunedin isn't quite New York, but it's a good place, they're good people and rugby-mad, which is perfect."
Rugby-mad but local rugby-mad, to be more specific. There's more news about his adopted club side the Mannioto Maggots than the Six Nations, and again, that suits Haskell down to the ground.
A first-choice England flanker with 39 caps, the 26-year-old had to forego playing in the tournament to fulfil a life-long goal of playing a season in Super Rugby. After initially talking with the Waratahs, Haskell joined the Highlanders and will play against NSW tonight in Dunedin.
"Since I've come over a new broom has swept through the England team, lots of changes so, yeah, I've taken a risk," Haskell told The Daily Telegraph this week.
"But coming over here, playing in this league and developing your game, you're going to go back stronger."
It's a gamble but a calculated one for Haskell.
His Test career benefited from three years with Stade Francais in France, and he believes there can be no downside to a competition where players from the world's top three ranked sides do battle in Test-strength clashes each week.
"When you are an England player, playing against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa teams is the pinnacle of your career, the ones you judge yourself by," Haskell said. "People talk about big internationals, well, here you are playing an international quality side every week.
"The Waratahs are chock full of Wallaby guys, big physical people.
"That comes every week, and you either live or die by that challenge."
And so the obvious question: what's the big difference between north and south?
The answer, says Haskell, is touch football.
"Here guys are playing touch from a young age.
"You see a lot of people playing in the park, and the ability to beat people is pretty prevalent," Haskell said.
"The idea I get over here is that people are focused on that one-on-one battle, so when people have got the ball they are watching the defenders to see what they're going to do.
"In England club rugby is more structured, and about weights and strength."
Super Rugby has been in the past been bagged in the north for being fairyfloss footy without defence or forwards. Haskell says that sentiment is now dated.
"It is a physical contest across the board," he said.
